Annual New Westminster Hyack Scout Camp
Queens Park in New Westminster
May 22, 23, 24 2009
The Scouts of New Westminster and the 50th BP New Westminster Guild would like to invite interested Scout groups from other Councils or Areas to join us at the camp that brings a whole new meaning to the expression, "Wilderness Camping".
Hosted by the Scout Troops of New Westminster this is the 22nd time this camp will be held and retains its tradition of being an invitational camp inviting Scouts from the other areas of the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island and Washington State to participate.
On Friday night the Sapperton Fish and Game Club will once again host gun safety and supervised rifle range shooting at their indoor range in Queens Park.
On Saturday morning we will be preoccupied in rummaging for breakfast and then walking it off in the parade. We are still developing the Saturday afternoon program but hope to have a demonstration by either the New Westminster Police Service or New Westminster Fire/Rescue as well as passes to the Canada Games Pool. Sunday morning will comprise Scouts Own and Closing.
We will be doing some service work in the park which mainly will involve clearing debris from a pond system. Waterproof boots are recommended as are gloves and each patrol should have a shovel or rake with them. If anyone needs something to indicate they provided service hours we will happily supply it.
The famous (or is it infamous) cooking contest is being resurrected. The original trophy has been retired (or was that "lost"?). The theme will be preparation of anything that must contain twenty two (22) different ingredients (22 grains of rice won't cut it).
Saturday night will feature the traditional Camp Fire hosted by the New Westminster Venturer Companies. Each Patrol is requested to come prepared with a skit, a song and a cheer.
Cost will be $15.00 for each youth and adult, which includes lunch Saturday and the camp badge. The fee is under review.
Groups should plan to arrive Friday evening after 5pm and leave around noon Sunday.
REMINDER:
- We have traditionally supplied Scouts to the Parade to carry banners in front of winning floats. Participating troops will be asked to take part in this activity. The number requested will be based as a percentage of those attending.
- Please have Physical Fitness Forms for each participant available.
- BP&P Section 10000, Camping and Outdoor Activities stipulates that Scouts participating in the Range Shooting must have signed permission from the members’ parent or guardian.
Your Group doesn't want to camp but would like to participate in the Parade and Saturday activities?
Of course your Group is welcome. A fee of $6.00 will cover the cost of a Camp Badge, lunch and a pool pass.
To register complete and mail a registration form. For more information (and/or to express an interest to attend), call Graham Ballantyne at 604-837-6698, or e-mail.
