How to get to Camp McLean

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Effective January 1, 2009 Groups booking facilities at Camps McLean will be required to make a deposit of $150.00 at time of booking which becomes non refundable if booking is cancelled less than two months prior to original booking. The deposit will be applied against the total owing for the booking.

Description:
Camp McLean is located in Southwest Langley at 20315 16th Avenue. The site is approximately 50 acres, 1/3 of it marsh habitat bordering the Little Campbell River, directly across from Campbell Valley Regional Nature and Equestrian Park. The camp has four rental facility areas and a service/resident Ranger area.

Common use areas include:
The parking lot - Maximum-parking spaces 250 (NO electrical hook-ups or extension cords will be provided for RV’s). Ashcroft Chapel, East Trail, West Road (not open to vehicles), garbage, firewood stores (when available), washroom building (Rotary Lodge & Erickson House only) consisting of 4 showers, 6 toilet stalls each side, laundry, and wheelchair access restroom.

Erickson House Main room seats up to 65, Fraser room seats up to 20, Two south break-out rooms up to 12 each, Upper floor break-out rooms - 20, Trainer’s/Leader lounge (sleeping prohibited) bookings are not restricted to Room seating capacities, however sleeping accommodation must be less than fire marshal’s limit of 125 persons. Two restrooms, kitchen equipped to cook for total capacity,  shared access & shared responsibility (with Rotary Lodge) for cleaning up the washroom complex, front field, East clearing (seasonal), flag pole, outdoor campfire pit.

Rotary Lodge Complex Main room seats 80, leaders lounge, kitchen equipped to serve 150, food staff restroom off kitchen, picnic tables, flag pole, outdoor campfire pit, shared access & shared responsibility (with Erickson House) for cleaning up the washroom complex, outside dish sinks, 10 youth cabins each with 8 bunks, 2 leaders cabins each with 2 rooms with 2 bunks in each room, 1 first aid cabin with 4 beds, 1 cooks cabin with 2 beds, hooks on cabins to hang dry dishes, flag poles holders on 10 youth cabins, cooking and cleaning equipment except table covers, dish towels, mess kits. There is a playing field to rear of washroom complex.

Bob Butcher Shelter and Field. Third field from front entrance, trail head at East side of parking lot, potable water, Gray water disposal 2 portable toilets, no access to washroom building, tables, fire pit on east side of field. No Vehicle Access.

Swain Shelter 24’ x 30’ Shelter with; floor, half walls. Campfire pit, flag pole, water tap for drinking water, 2 outhouses, , trail head at East side of paved parking lot, approximately 800 meters. No Vehicle Access.
   
Click to enlarge Chapel/Activity Centre: Semi-open shelter with lights, benches.  Suitable for Scouts own ceremonies and/or activities of many kinds (crafts, training. Etc Memorial wall next to Chapel.  Available for all users, times must be coordinated with other groups in camp.Replaced original Ashcroft Chapel on the east side of the field. No Vehicle Access.
   

click to enlarge Archery Shelter. Covered building with open area in front. Located next to the Ericson Firepit and ajacient to the parking lot.  Has power.

 

 

 

We do not supply:

Dish towels (air drying is recommended), bleach (to sanitize dishes), table covers (recommended for crafts & eating), food storage containers or means of taking leftovers away, cooking oil (Canola is safest), dishes for eating (except Erickson House '65 place settings'), RV hook-ups, flags, axes, mattresses, bedding, Transportation of goods to site.

Definitions of Rental periods:

Weekend - Fri. 6:00 pm to Sun. 4:00 pm ;
Overnight - any day from 6:00 pm to the following day 4:00 pm ;
Day - any day from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm ;
Evening - any evening from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm or any portion thereof.

Booking applications accepted in the following order

  1. Fraser Valley Council uses (training, events and meetings) to be reserved by June 30 for the period up to August 31 of the following year.
  2. Fraser Valley Council Areas use (training, events and meetings) to be reserved after June 30 for the period up to August 31 of the following calendar year.
  3. Fraser Valley Scout Groups may place reservations after September 1st for the period up to December 31 of the following calendar year.
  4. Scouting Groups (non Fraser Valley Council) and Girl Guides may apply after November 1st for the period up to August 31 of the following calendar year.
  5. Those not included in the previously listed qualifications may apply after November 30th for the period up to August 31 of the following calendar year.

Supplies provided - Rotary Lodge Complex

Mop & bucket, washable kitchen broom, rubber dustpan, push-brooms, disinfectant hand soap in dispenser, scour pads, rubber gloves (black – oven cleaner), grill cleaner, grill cleaning brick, spare light bulbs, paper towel, toilet paper, vinyl gloves, glass cleaner, disinfectant, bowl mop & tote, garbage bags, corn brooms.

Supplies provided - Erickson House

Mop & bucket, washable kitchen broom, rubber dustpan, push-brooms, vacuum with hoses & powerhead with cord, disinfectant hand soap in dispenser, rubber gloves (black - oven cleaner), grill cleaner, grill cleaning brick, plunger, caddy, spare light bulbs, paper towel, toilet paper, vinyl gloves, glass cleaner, disinfectant, pink hand soap, sanitary-napkin disposal bags, bowl mop & tote, garbage bags, corn brooms.

Supplies provided - Bob Butcher and Swain Shelters

Bucket filled with brush, trigger sprayer of disinfectant, Pine cleaner, toilet paper rolls, garbage.

We do not Supply

Dish towels (air drying is recommended), bleach (to sanitize dishes), table covers (recommended for crafts and eating), food storage containers or means of taking leftovers away, cooking oil (Canola is safest), dishes for eating , RV hook-ups or extension cords, flags (see Program Support Equipment), axes, mattresses, bedding, Transportation of goods to site. We no longer provide recycling at Camp.  Please take your recycling with you.

 Bordering Camp McLean on three sides is the Greater Vancouver Regional Districts "Campbell Valley Regional Nature and Equestrian Park ", 535 hectares of Parkland with many facilities and programs to offer adjuncts to your stay at Camp McLean . The map shown is available at the North Valley Entrance Kiosk across 16th Avenue from the Camp McLean entrance. Park hours are 8:00 am to dusk from Labour Day to the end of daylight savings and 8:00 am to 9:00 pm summer months.

Please make request as far in advance as possible to ensure availability for the following:

- an interpreter, pond access, after hours park use or farmstead visits by calling the East Area Office at 530-4983

 Some of the facilities available around Camp McLean :  

McLean Pond, Fields, Old Orchard Picnic Shelter, Camp Coyote , Equestrian Center , Little River Bowl Parking.

FACILITY SAFETY

  • All Users are required to report to the Camp Ranger for check-in & check-out.
  • Telephones located in the Erickson House Trainer’s Room & Rotary Lodge’s lounge and Pantry are for essential and emergency use only. Anyone using a phone, if asked to relinquish their call, should advise their party and hang up immediately.
  • Camp emergencies should be reported to the Camp Ranger, with emergency vehicles  guided by Camp Ranger if possible.
  • Camp McLean is in a 911-service area.
  • Fire exits must not be blocked or secured shut.
  • In the case of power outages the water is off line so outhouses should be used in place  of flush toilets.
  • The discretion of the Camp Ranger shall prevail in all matters of conduct and safety.
  • Do Not drive your vehicles "Off Road" in Camp.
  • The main gate will be closed (but not locked) @ 10:30 pm each evening as it helps limit  vandalism.
  • All vehicles should be left locked & items of value stored out of sight.

MAINTENANCE GUIDE

  • Trees, shrubs or the creek should never be used as a toilet.
  • In respect of wildlife and other Camp users, No pets are permitted on site.
  • All campers are asked to observe quiet time after 11 pm .
  • Fires to be in designated areas only, Erickson Fire pit, Rotary Fire pit, Center Field Fire pit and Swain Shelter Fire pit.  Please do not leave fires burning unattended and ensure they are fully extinguished after use.
  • Firewood will be provided subject to availability. Do Not cut or burn deadfall or trees.
  • All equipment and furniture is to be returned to its correct location.
  • Alcoholic beverages are not permitted by any user groups at Camp McLean . (please refer to the Duty of Care Document).
  • Smoking permitted only in designated smoking areas. Persons under the age of 19 will not be permitted to smoke anywhere on camp.  Please ensure you are familiar with the National Duty of Care Document regarding smoking in the presence of youth.
  • Camp courtesy is to request entry to others’ site. Sidewalks to and from washroom complex should be used. Make yourself familiar with the site and be friendly not intrusive.
  • Dispose of Gray Water at the locations indicated on the site map. Please do not dump in the bush, fields or creek.
  • PROGRAM SUPPORT EQUIPMENT

    The following is available at no rental charge; however, users of equipment will be responsible for the cost of replacing equipment, loss of equipment, damage, cleaning required or late return.                                              

    Equipment for Council Rental Only:

     2 FVR Marquee Shelters on/site only        $75 plus $10/day
