Cougar Creek Streamkeepers

Second year scout, Gabriel Riquelme, teamed with Deborah Jones from the Cougar Creek Streamkeepers to co-ordinate an invasive plant removal project in Delta. Cubs, scouts, leaders and parents turned out on Saturday March 14, 2015, to an Ivy Pull. Deborah explained to the group of 27 volunteers that English Ivy is not native to this part of the world and effectively strangles trees if left unchecked. She went on to say that this invader can grow 5m a year. Gabriel decided on this project for his World Scouting Environment Award because he wanted to save trees! Youth and leaders came from 10th & 17th Sur Del Scouting units, both of which are sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Scouts Canada, the country’s leading youth organization, offers challenging programs for boys, girls and youth age 5-26 in thousands of individual groups in most cities and towns across Canada.
