BRING A FRIEND CHALLENGE 2009

Creating a Better World

Bring a Friend

Although the National Bring a Friend campaign is held in January, February and March, to celebrate Scouting and introduce our programs to more youth across Canada it is not restricted to these months.

We all believe in the values that Scouting’s programs teach and the opportunities for youth to learn new, exciting things and make new friends!

We need your help to make Bring a Friend a success and bring the benefits of the Scouting adventure to more Canadian youth!

Bring a Friend Questions and Answers

Q: What is Bring a Friend?

A: It is a celebration of Scouting’s involvement in the community and  an opportunity for Scouting youth and leaders to invite their friends to one or two meetings. It occurs during the months of January, February and March.

Q: What’s in it for my section, youth and leaders?

A: Great question.  Each youth and leader who brings a friend will receive a Bring a Friend pin, which they can put onto their campfire blanket or simply add to their collection.  In addition, Leaders can purchase crests at their local Scout Shop.

Q: The numbers in our section are just fine. Our challenge is leadership and volunteers; why should we participate?

A: In terms of volunteer leaders, think of this as your door opener to recruit additional leaders from that friend you always thought would make a great leader.  Another opportunity arises from the additional youth brought into your section, the new parents with new energy and ideas to offer. Bring a Friend is not exclusive to youth, all leaders are encouraged to participate.  Word of mouth is truly the best way to promote our programs.

Q: I am concerned about ratio of leaders to youth with the new members coming in. How can I handle these new members?

A:  Good question; you should probably plan now on asking a few parents to help out during Bring a Friend campaign, who knows you may even find a new leader in one of those parents.  Don’t forget to make sure you have a few extra materials on hand for meetings so the friends can fully participate too!

Q: Do "Friends" who attend a meeting need to have their parents sign a Hold Harmless Agreement?

A: "Friends" can attend regular meetings for two nights without having to sign the Hold Harmless Agreement, however they should register on or before their third night. "Friends" are not permitted to attend camps/outings until they have become  a registered member.
